Most Ukrainian refugees do not want to change their location, because their families and children have already begun to settle in the country.
This is reported by the Spanish edition of El Pais.
However, many of the hotel rooms were booked by tourists for the summer before the refugees moved in.
Those Ukrainians who rent their accommodations from private individuals have a hard time with seasonal surcharges of tens of percent. Flats for Ukrainian refugees are paid for by the Spanish Red Cross, but the organisation will no longer be able to sponsor accommodation at the summer rate in resort locations.
“Everyone wants to live near the sea or Barcelona and Madrid, but they have to understand that they are under the protection of the Red Cross and that in the zero reception phase you have to go wherever you are directed,” says Anastasia Chornohuz, a representative of the Association of Ukrainians in Spain.
