Residents of the Kherson region must decide for themselves about the future fate of the region.
Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov commented on the statement of the deputy head of the Kherson region that the authorities intend to appeal to Vladimir Putin with a request to accept the region into Russia.
“The residents of the Kherson region must decide whether they want such an appeal or not. And the inhabitants of the Kherson region should determine their fate”, Peskov said.
Peskov stressed that this issue “should be clearly and carefully verified and evaluated by lawyers.
“Such fateful decisions must have a clear legal justification, be absolutely legitimate, as was the case with Crimea,” Putin’s spokesman added.
On May 11, Kirill Stremousov, deputy chairman of the military-civilian administration of the Kherson region, said that the authorities were preparing a request to include the Kherson region into a full-fledged subject of the Russian Federation and planned to appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
