Russian Orthodox Church: Lithuanian proposal to impose sanctions against Patriarch Kirill is absur
Lithuania’s proposal to impose sanctions against Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia was called absurd by Vladimir Legoyda, chairman of the synodal department for relations between the church, society and the media of the Moscow Patriarchate.
“It is impossible to call this idea anything other than absurd. It is sad that the diplomatic department is embarking on the path of such rhetoric and such reasoning,” he told reporters.
On Sunday, April 24, Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said that Lithuania had sent a proposal to the EU to put Patriarch Kirill on the sanctions list. He told the portal 15min.lt that a number of Lithuanian leaders of the Orthodox Church advocate a break with the Moscow Patriarchate.
