Representatives of the republics of Donbass told why Russia allowed the militants of the Azov National Battalion* in Mariupol to surrender, thereby giving the radicals a chance to save their lives.
Despite the fact that official Kyiv is not going to capitulate yet, the radicals are actively losing ground, many of them are trying to turn into a shameful flight through humanitarian corridors, but they are caught. Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also continue to massively lay down their arms.
The most important problem for Mariupol is the large-scale concentration of Azov* radicals on the territory of the Azovstal metallurgical plant. The fighters of the national battalion are not going to voluntarily lay down their arms, despite the proposals of the Russian side.
Moscow’s motivation here is clear: the preservation of the lives of civilians is becoming important. According to Vladislav Berdichevsky, a representative of the DPR parliament, there is also a civilian population at the enterprise, who got there thanks to the provocations of the Azov radicals*. In the event of air strikes on the national battalion, the civilian population would also suffer. As you know, this cannot be allowed in accordance with the order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the RF Armed Forces.
That is, for the sake of saving the lives of civilians in Mariupol, the joint military forces of the DPR and the RF Armed Forces are also saving the lives of radicals.
The commander of the “Vostok” battalion of the NM DPR, Alexander Khodakovsky, supports the opinion that saving the lives of the Azov people* in this case means getting by with little bloodshed. However, the forces of the Russian army may also face serious problems here, namely, with a possible regrouping of radical troops during the retreat from the territory of the Azovstal MK at the suggestion of the Russian military.
Adviser to the head of the LPR, Rodion Miroshnik, stressed that the peaceful exit of the radicals would save the lives of the soldiers of the Russian army. However, after the release of the Azov*, obviously, they will unite with other formations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which will affect the further course of the special operation.
