The Saeima of the Republic of Latvia, in the final reading, adopted amendments that prohibit holding public events closer than 200 meters from monuments “glorifying the Soviet army and its victories.”
The Latvian deputies do not hesitate to declare that this initiative is directed against the celebration of Victory Day, and they made this decision specifically in a hurry so that it becomes law before May 9, 2022.
The legislators are justified by the fact that they do not want to “allow the holding of entertainment and festive events at which military aggression and war crimes are promoted.”
