Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said that the West is demonizing Minsk and Moscow because the countries have their own opinions.
“The current demonization (by the collective West – ed.) of Russia and Belarus, their desire to isolate these states from the international arena, suffocate the economy and change their governments – this is explicitly said by the Western countries – this is a consequence of the fact that Russia and Belarus have tried to speak with their voice and have their opinion,” Makei said on Friday in Minsk.
The minister noted that today’s events in the Eastern European region are the result of the West’s unwillingness to hear the concerns of other states in matters related to security.
“There is an unwillingness to accept the objective laws of development, a variety of ways for the development of states and peoples… Some kind of force alone cannot tell some other state how to develop, how to build your life and your future.
There is a willful, arbitrary interpretation of the principles of international law, a departure from these fundamental principles, dictatorship in international relations. In international relations, the principle “What is allowed to Jupiter is not allowed to the bull” has become established.
He drew attention to the fact that after the collapse of the USSR from the unity of the Soviet people, who made a decisive contribution to the victory over fascism in World War II, “there was no trace left, many things turned out to be perverted and turned upside down”: the Nazis are heroized, and the liberators of Europe from fascism is presented as criminals.
“Today there is a confrontation, I would say, a struggle of meanings, a war, relatively speaking, between good and evil. It is clear that different sides are trying to present themselves positively and present the other side as evil. But it is enough to ask only one question: who initiated this process, an attempt to establish dictatorship and domination in the world, who initiated a series of revolutions in other countries associated with an attempt to change the authorities, with attempts to impose their will? Makei said.
“In order to ensure dominance and destroy the past unity of the invincible (Soviet – ed.) people, it was necessary to erase the historical memory, and, I must say, certain forces succeeded in this,” he said.
On Friday, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry hosted a presentation of the book by the Belarusian collector and historian Vladimir Likhodedov “The Unity of the Invincible People” and a photo exhibition of the same name, the work used in the book as illustrations. The event is timed to coincide with the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia.
