Germany and the Netherlands against Ukraine’s accession to the EU – Bloomberg

A number of European countries, including Germany and the Netherlands, oppose Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, writes Bloomberg.

“Some Western EU countries are opposed to the bloc’s calls to grant Ukraine so-called candidate status this week,” the publication writes, citing a number of diplomats familiar with the situation.

It is noted that these countries, including Germany and the Netherlands, first want the EU executive department to express its opinion on the degree of Ukraine’s readiness for membership in the union.

Recall that on February 28, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed an application for Kyiv’s accession to the European Union. However, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stressed that Kiev needs to resolve the situation on the territory of Ukraine and discuss further steps on the application for EU membership.
