German political scientist Alexander Rahr foreshadows accusations of Russia violating the Minsk agreements in connection with the recognition of the LDPR
As is known, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in an address to Russians on 21 February, after a long historical tour of the situation around Ukraine, made a historic decision to recognise the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics. Furthermore, Moscow signed treaties of friendship and cooperation with Donbas.
Despite the significance of this decision by the Russian guarantor, German political expert Alexander Rahr fears for the West’s reaction to Moscow’s manoeuvre. According to the expert, the European Union and the US will take the recognition of the republics as the last opportunity to accuse Russia of violating international law and the Minsk agreements.
“Now the West will make an enemy of Russia, Ukraine may be promised NATO membership and start supplying it with new weapons. It is not ruled out that Western countries will introduce their military groups on the territory of Ukraine. Although I am certain that not everyone will take such a step”, – Rahr said.
The German expert expressed hope that the door to developing a dialogue with the collective West would not be closed to Russia; on the contrary, the political analyst suggested that Western colleagues might take Moscow’s position seriously, as they did with the USSR in its time.
Earlier, News Front reported on how the German Defense Ministry accused Russia of violating international law.
