US President Joe Biden has issued a statement on the Ukraine issue after the Russian side said it had started withdrawing troops from the border with Ukraine
Earlier, Washington said that Russia would invade Ukraine on February 16.
In his address, Biden said that the possibility of an invasion remained, but was at least postponed, and stressed that the crisis situation could be resolved through diplomacy.
The US leader voiced the traditional caveat that basic principles, such as territorial integrity and sovereignty of countries, must be strictly respected.
At the same time, Biden put an important emphasis on something else. He said that the US had put forward concrete proposals on the issue of security in Europe, including new arms control measures applicable equally to both Russia and NATO countries. This is a sign of a gap in the West’s position.
