Russian Ambassador to Germany says Nord Stream-2 is artificially politicized

There are no objective reasons for delaying the certification of the Russian Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, said Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergei Nechaev.

“We don’t see any objective reasons for artificially delaying certification, let alone far-fetched political links,” Nechaev said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to the diplomat, the gas pipeline was built in full compliance with the norms and requirements of the EU legislation. However, the originally agreed rules “have been repeatedly changed by the EU, including changes to the gas directive and the artificial introduction of political moments into the project,” Nechaev said.

As News Front previously reported, the certification process should resume in the near future, as Nord Stream-2 AG created a subsidiary in the German jurisdiction of Gas for Europe GmbH in accordance with the requirements of the German regulator and provided the necessary documentation in full.

The Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline was built from the coast of Russia to Germany across the Baltic Sea. Its total capacity is about 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The process of certification of the pipeline is currently underway.
