French President Emmanuel Macron is vying for supremacy in Europe as he talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin over the conflict over Ukraine, political analyst Mikhail Pogrebinsky believes
“I think Macron’s visit is due to his position in French and European politics in general today. This, first of all. I do not rule out that he would like to rule out a serious aggravation between Ukraine and Russia. But it seems to me that this is not the main thing in his visit. The main thing is preparing for the presidential election and an unspoken competition with the new [German] Chancellor Olaf Scholz”, – the expert said.
He also noted that Macron is now fighting for the first place in the European political process.
