CNN: US may send response to Russia on security guarantees Jan 26

Washington plans to provide Russia with a response on security guarantees on Wednesday, January 26. This is reported by CNN, citing its sources.

“The Biden administration intends to send Russia a written response to Moscow’s publicly disclosed concerns, as well as US proposals for further action as early as Wednesday,” the channel’s journalists said, RIA Novosti reports.

The response is expected to indicate areas in which the United States plans to cooperate with Russia, including arms control, increased transparency, risk mitigation, and deployment of missile systems. According to CNN, the response will contain “slightly more detailed” details than the US has publicly released.

Recall that in December 2021, Russia published drafts of a bilateral treaty on security guarantees and an agreement on measures to ensure the security of the Russian Federation and the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance. Moscow demanded legal guarantees of refusing further eastward expansion of NATO, Ukraine joining the alliance, and establishing military bases in post-Soviet countries.
