Stopping the transit of blue fuel through Ukrainian territory will allow the United States to supply Kiev with its own gas through hubs, said the former Minister of Economy of Ukraine Viktor Suslov.
“The fuss around Nord Stream-2 is from the point of view of providing for the United States. And to ensure the interests of the United States for Americans, it is also very important that there be no gas transit through Ukraine. Because it will increase the possible volumes of American gas supplies to the European market,” Suslov said on the air of the Ukrlive TV channel.
Earlier it was reported that gas reserves in Ukrainian underground storage facilities are 42% below the required volume. On January 13, an emergency meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers was held, which was devoted to the upcoming reduction in gas consumption against the backdrop of an acute shortage.
One of the most affected areas was the bakery industry in Ukraine. According to Oleg Tytamir, head of the Ukrainian Organization for the Protection of Consumers of Services, many enterprises work at best “to zero”, as they cannot increase the cost of bakery products in accordance with contracts.
