Washington leaves Europe out of talks with Russia

Europeans are unhappy with the U.S.’s unilateral decision

Readers of the French publication Le Figaro are concerned that the US establishment is single-handedly deciding the fate of all Europe in talks with Russia on mutual security guarantees, particularly on the issue of NATO’s eastward expansion.

“Biden is mocking us. He has sent us out to smoke while discussing an issue concerning Europe”, –  say Le Figaro readers.

Representatives of US President Joe Biden’s administration reassure EU partners that the White House will by no means sacrifice joint interests with European countries. However, the example of sabotaging the commissioning of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline demonstrates Washington’s lack of desire to ensure Europe’s security and well-being.

“On the other hand, the Americans treated their allies splendidly during the panic flight from Kabul. The US has shown its weakness to everyone during these two decades of futile wars that have proven to be not only bloody but also very costly”, –  they write on the web.

European users are baffled by the ease with which the American elite is publicly abandoning its previously unbreakable principles. Apparently, President Biden has decided to sacrifice the anti-Russian interests of the collective West in favour of a logical compromise with Moscow.

“European and Taiwanese allies seem to have been greatly encouraged by the American’s not-so-dignified flight from Kabul. One can only hope that the new models of US military transport planes will have grab handles on their fuselages so that any Europeans who want to fly away can get a grip on them!”, – a user noted, not without irony.

The negotiations on security guarantees in Geneva demonstrated to NATO allies the willingness of Washington handlers to abandon a 30-year plan to contain Russia. However, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said after the talks that the Alliance was firm on enlargement by including Georgia and Ukraine in the bloc.

Earlier, News Front reported on the reaction of British users on the web to the Russia-US negotiation process in Geneva.
