Nine Il-76s with military and airborne equipment landed at the airfield in Almaty in Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Defense said.
The Russian contingent is part of the collective peacekeeping forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). Earlier, the Armenian military department announced the dispatch of one hundred servicemen.
President of the republic, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, asked for military assistance amid unrest in the country. In addition to Russia and Armenia, support will be provided by other CSTO members – Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Belarus and Tajikistan.
