Telegraph: Britain announced the threat of an energy crisis amid rising gas prices

In the UK, energy companies have turned to the authorities with a request to provide assistance amid a colossal rise in gas prices, as this is fraught with a large-scale energy crisis, writes The Daily Telegraph.

The heads of the British companies DF, Good Energy and Energy UK called on the government to influence the situation, as the rapid rise in gas prices “put the industry on the brink of disaster.” Business leaders are asking London to support business by lowering the VAT rate.

“This is a national crisis. Wholesale gas and electricity prices have risen to unprecedented levels in the past three weeks. No one in the industry can feel insured”, said Good Energy CEO Nigel Pocklington.

Energy UK head Emma Pinchbeck said the energy sector has been warning in recent weeks of “a major threat to the British economy from the unprecedented and alarming cost of gas in Europe.”

“Unfortunately, this is just the beginning. All suppliers have a commitment to supporting customer welfare and EDF is helping, but the scale of the problem consumers are dealing with is too great. Energy companies cannot do it alone”, summed up Philippe Kommaret, Managing Director of Customer Relations at EDF.

Recall that more than 20 British energy companies filed for bankruptcy amid record high prices for natural gas, including Bulb, which previously ranked seventh in Britain in terms of the number of customers. Official London previously stated that the government does not intend to provide financial assistance to companies yet.

As previously reported by News Front, according to the London stock exchange ICE, the price of one thousand cubic meters of gas exceeded the historical record of $2,100.
