Germany will spend more than 160 million euros on the G7 summit

The G7 summit in Bavaria will cost more than € 160 million, Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann said in a letter to members of the regional parliament’s budget committee.

“In accordance with the available information and the situation, which at the moment is still not completely clear, the total costs of the organization amount to approximately 166.1 million euros,” the minister was quoted as saying.

Experts note that the meeting of the heads of state of the Group of Seven at the Elmau Castle near the city of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in June 2022 will cost much more than the 2015 G7 summit, which was held there. Then, about 135 million euros were spent on organizing the meeting.

“About 47 million euros will be allocated for security during the summit, that is, for the police. Another € 30 million will be spent on purchasing security equipment during the G7 meeting”, Herrman said.

In addition, one of the largest items of expenditure will be the lease of land, buildings, premises, vehicles and equipment for a total of about 52 million euros. €30 million will be allocated as compensation to the federal government and other federal states for bringing police officers from other regions.

The meeting of the G7 Heads of State and Government will take place on June 26-28, 2022 at Ellmau Castle in Upper Bavaria. In the coming year, seven years later, Germany will take over the G7 chairmanship. Recall that the G7 includes Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, USA, France and Japan. Previously, the association also included Russia, but against the background of the crisis in relations between Moscow and the West in 2014, the organization returned to the G7 format.
