Klitschko calls on new German government to send military aid to Ukraine

Kiev mayor Vitaliy Klitschko has said that the new German government should provide military support to the Ukrainian authorities and approve arms supplies

“There is no way Germany will not approve the Alliance’s decision to supply defensive weapons to Ukraine! The new federal government must understand that aid has never been more important for our country”, –  the politician told the Bild newspaper.

Klitschko noted that Ukraine “is in the centre of Europe, on the border with several EU countries”. He said Kiev does not want war, but will not allow “Russia to return the country to the Soviet empire, which the people of Ukraine do not want to be in.”

“We are a European country that needs European support more than ever”,-  he stressed.

According to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, the German government’s refusal to supply arms to Kiev is unjustified and political. The minister added that the Ukrainian authorities would like to receive patrol boats, automatic weapons, radio communication equipment and armoured vehicles.

American Spectator expert Francis Sempa said that the White House was not interested in Ukraine’s independence and had no intention at all to send its military to defend Kiev. Meanwhile, Washington and its allies can continue supplying lethal weapons to Ukraine.
