Relations between Lithuania and China deteriorated after the Baltic country’s authorities decided to support Taiwan
Afterwards China demanded transnational corporations to cut all ties with Lithuania, otherwise it threatened the companies would not be able to trade their products on the Chinese market.
Recall that in November China downgraded all its diplomatic relations with Lithuania to chargé d’affaires after a Taiwanese mission opened in Vilnius.
Also, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin has repeatedly criticised Lithuania for its stance on Taiwan.
“It has created the false impression that Taiwan is separate from China, severely damaged China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and set an egregious precedent among the international community”, – he said.
