Instead of armed confrontation, Washington is using economic pressure. This is reported by FAN.
Washington’s aggressive policy against Moscow’s economic projects will adversely affect President Biden’s reputation in the eyes of his European colleagues. This opinion was expressed to the publication by ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Vladimir Oleinik.
The politician commented on the statement of the American guarantor after a meeting with his Russian counterpart Putin that the White House “is not considering the idea of using the military because of disagreements with Russia over Ukraine.”
“It seems to me that this conversation was about nothing. It was, in my opinion, more like asking questions than getting answers. What do I assume Putin demanded? Guarantees of NATO’s non-expansion to the east, including to Ukraine. What was the answer? Biden said that this is the sovereign right of the Alliance and the countries that want to join it. The President of the Russian Federation spoke about the red lines – his American counterpart, as we heard earlier, refused to recognize them. When, following the meeting, we were told that NATO would not fight, we really heard the truth. Washington will not send its soldiers to die for the sake of Ukrainians, thereby causing tension in its own society”, Oleinik said.
The politician revealed a possible scenario for the United States, during which the Americans want to impose new extensive sanctions on Russian projects, without destroying their reputation with Europe.
“They signed a memorandum with Germany stating that it agrees to stop the Nord Stream-2 if Russia attacks Ukraine. Thus, the “ball” was handed over to Kiev: after all, it does not want to launch a new gas pipeline either. Now they will try to arrange a provocation in the Donbass and provoke the Russian army to defend this region. In this case, Kiev can inform the whole world about the “Russian aggression” – and then the Americans, without any damage to their own reputation among the Europeans, can stop Nord Stream-2 and do a lot of things that are unnecessary for Europe”, Oleinik explained.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Zelensky said that negotiations between the United States and Russia are a positive trend. He also said he was still awaiting a call from Washington.
