U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said after a meeting with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that the talks between Putin and Biden would take place “in the near future.

Also, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said the contact between the Russian president and his US counterpart was needed to “send a political signal” that the situation was not deteriorating, but stabilising.

We recall that the first meeting between the Russian and US leaders was held on 16 June in Geneva at the Villa La Grange – then the leaders communicated for more than three hours. At the end of the meeting the Russian leader said that the talks had gone well.
