The security situation in Belarus must always be viewed in the context of NATO’s deployment against Russia, said Austrian geopolitical analyst Patrick Poppel.
The expert noted that at present, peace in Europe is in danger, as the West is increasingly inclined towards confrontation against Russia. In his opinion, there is a clear threat of full-scale hostilities.
“After the uprising on the Maidan in Ukraine and the return of Crimea to the Russian Federation, the situation in the East has ceased to be calm. Now Belarus is at the center of NATO’s attention. After the possible uprising against President Lukashenko did not work, the West is now looking for new ways to interfere in the affairs of Belarus”, the analyst said.
Patrick Poppel added that the actions of the North Atlantic Alliance may not be limited to sanctions alone: NATO may no longer shy away from hostilities. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for substantive negotiations to be reached to achieve legal guarantees of the non-expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance to the East.
