US Senator Rob Portman has called on the US administration to provide Kiev with anti-tank and anti-aircraft equipment to “deter the Russian threat”
According to media reports, he is proposing to allocate $350 million to the Pentagon in 2022 to assist Ukraine, of which at least $125 million is reserved for the supply of “lethal” assets.
“I call on the administration to provide the additional assistance in the form of anti-aircraft and anti-tank weapons that are needed to deter this latest Russian threat. We must take all measures to support our ally Ukraine at this time”, – Portman said.
Earlier it became known that the US administration is studying the issue of sending military advisers and weapons to Ukraine, including mortars, Javelin anti-tank missile systems and Stinger portable anti-aircraft missile systems.
U.S. officials have expressed concern about Russia’s “unusual” concentration of troops near Ukraine, and Kiev says there is a threat of Russian invasion.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has repeatedly stated that Russia is not going to attack anyone and has no aggressive plans. He added that “it is absolutely wrong to associate any movement of the Russian Armed Forces on the territory of our country with such plans.”
