Berlin puts Nord Stream 2 certification on hold

The German side has decided to suspend the certification of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. It is due to legal changes

The Federal Network Agency noted that the certification process for NSP2 will resume when Gazprom completes the creation of a subsidiary. It will be located in Germany and used for its part of the pipeline.

The German regulator noted that it had alerted the European Commission, the German Energy Ministry and all parties involved in the certification in advance of its decision.

It recently became known that the Germans allowed Ukrainian companies Naftogaz and the Ukrainian GTS Operator to take part in the approval procedure for the Russian gas pipeline. There is no doubt that Kiev will try to prevent the launch of the project. However, it is very doubtful that it will be able to influence it even slightly.
