Hackers hacked the e-mail of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, reports Bloomberg.
According to journalists, unknown persons sent tens of thousands of letters on behalf of the bureau warning of a possible cyberattack. The FBI said that along with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection Agency (CISA), the United States is aware of what happened.
“This is an ongoing situation, and at present we cannot provide any additional information,” the agency quoted the FBI as saying, the text was reported by RIA Novosti.
It is noted that the bureau uses several e-mail systems. According to Bloomberg, the hackers broke into the public relations box. According to Austin Berglas, head of professional services for cybersecurity company BlueVoyant, this is a hack of a “secret system.”
“This is an external account that is used to exchange and transfer unclassified information,” the specialist said. He added that the FBI uses a separate e-mail system to transmit classified information.
