Biden says promise to catch hackers worldwide fulfilled

US President Joe Biden intends to keep his promise to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The US guarantor notes that he made it clear at his last meeting with his Russian counterpart that the US intends to fight cybercrime around the world. An official statement from the White House chief said

“When I met with President Putin in June, I made it clear that the US would take action to bring cyber criminals to justice. We did that today”, –  Biden stated.

The statement was released after US authorities filed charges against Russian citizen Yevgeny Polyanskiy and Ukrainian-born Yaroslav Vasinskiy.

“We will use the full power of the federal government to thwart malicious cyber activity and criminals to strengthen protections in our country, combat the abuse of virtual currency to launder ransomware, and use international cooperation to disrupt the extortion ecosystem and combat safe havens of criminals who use ransomware”, –  Joe Biden states.

According to US intelligence, the subjects are members of the Sodinokibi/REvil group and, together with hacker associates, carried out about three thousand ransomware attacks and looted more than $6 million from the affected companies. The defendants face 145 and 115 years in U.S. prisons.
