The commissioning of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline should be accelerated, as Europe faces a “cold winter,” said Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder.
“A smart energy supply strategy is needed. To this end, it is advisable to launch the Nord Stream-2 pipeline soon in order to put gas prices in order. We cannot, without taking action, watch the price rise ahead of the cold winter”, Söder said in an interview with the Funke media group.
The politician stressed that Germany is leaving coal and nuclear energy, which will inevitably lead to higher prices and increased demand for electricity. Zöder noted that the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2 could become a reliable basis for obtaining blue fuel.
As a reminder, the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline was completed on September 10. According to the project operator Nord Stream-2 AG, the first string of the pipeline has already been filled with technical gas. Pavel Zavalny, Chairman of the State Duma Energy Committee, said that the launch of Nord Stream 2 is planned for early 2022.
