Readers of the Hokkaido Shimbun have called to “forget about the islands” because the Kurils will never return to Japan
Readers of the Japanese publication Hokkaido Shimbun have spoken harshly about Tokyo’s policy towards Russia and the Kuril Islands.
“To be honest, I think we will never get the islands back. Russia manages to pursue a clever and cunning policy in the territorial issue… Russia will never give us back the islands it got as a result of the war” yta wrote.
“Well, there you have it, the former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s “genius of diplomacy” solution! Just like the people say: ‘Just forget about this territorial issue’! As if it doesn’t even exist. Just don’t mention it. Now that’s wise! Now that’s politics!” – a reader with the nickname now sneers.
“Come on, forget about the islands! We are only a source of money for the Russians for economic cooperation – a ‘golden crane’,” claims mm1.
“I don’t understand this ‘wise policy’ of our rulers. The Northern Isles were Russian, and still are. Only somewhere allegedly two billion dollars went for economic cooperation with Russia”, – added kai.
According to users, the problem of ownership of the islands is less and less frequently mentioned in Japanese society, and the younger generation is even beginning to forget about its existence.
