Media: the price of Russian gas for Moldova may increase to $600 per thousand cubic meters

The cost of Russian gas for the Moldovagaz company may amount to $500-600 per thousand cubic meters. This was reported by TASS, referring to its source close to the negotiations between Gazprom and Moldova.

“Since 2021, the gas price in the warm season is calculated on the basis of the market value, when the demand for blue fuel falls along with the cost of gas, and in the winter period it is tied to the situation on the diesel fuel and fuel oil market, which allowed the republic to significantly save”, – noted the source of the agency.

According to him, in accordance with the terms of the new contract, in the first and fourth quarters of the year, Moldova will acquire 70% of the volume pegged to oil prices, and the rest at market value; in the second and third quarters – 30% pegged to oil prices, and the rest of the volumes – at market prices.

As previously reported by News Front, Moldova and Gazprom signed a gas contract for five years. The document provides for the payment by Chisinau of the historical debt for gas supplies in the past years. According to the official representative of “Gazprom” Sergei Kupriyanov, currently the body of the debt is 433 million dollars.

“According to a new contract with Gazprom, which was concluded for five years, Moldova undertook to pay off the historical debt for the supply of blue fuel in the past years. The debt, taking into account the penalty interest, amounted to $ 700 million, and the Moldovan side insisted on its audit”, the TASS interlocutor emphasized.
