Journalist Herwartz said European Union countries should buy gas together to confront Russia
Journalist Christoph Herwartz, in an article for the German newspaper Handelsblatt, suggested a way to “confront” Russia amid rising gas prices in Europe.
In his opinion, EU countries should start buying the blue fuel together rather than separately.
“EU countries can join forces to buy gas together to confront the dominant supplier in the market, i.e. Russia”, – Herwartz said.
The author of the article suggests that European politicians are already considering such a possibility.
“Energy ministers want to discuss it next week”, – the journalist concluded.
Herwartz also noted that greater “independence” from Russian gas would come from the extensive use of water, solar and wind energy.
