Russian Embassy in Serbia considers attempt to expel diplomats from Kosovo a provocation

The Russian side has commented on Pristina’s decision to expel its diplomats from Serbian territory. The Russian Embassy in Serbia is monitoring the situation

The diplomatic mission considers such a decision by the “government” of Kosovo to be a provocation. The Russian mission’s press service told RIA Novosti.

“We do not recognise Kosovo’s ‘independence’ and consequently the provincial ‘government’ and other ‘structures’. No Pristina “decisions” have any legal force for us. We cooperate with the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) on the basis of UN Security Council resolution 1244, including on this issue,” diplomats said.

The embassy stressed that it was unacceptable to try to hinder the work of diplomats accredited to UNMIK. They are in Kosovo within the framework of international law, and Pristina, by trying to expel them, is committing a serious provocation against Russia.

Earlier, News Front reported that President of the self-proclaimed Kosovo Vjosa Osmani announced her intention to expel two Russian diplomats. The head of state asked Foreign Minister Donika Gervale-Schwartz to declare the Russians persona non grata.
