High gas prices in the EU create additional fiscal risks for Ukraine, the country’s draft state budget for 2022 requires clarification, Kiev is discussing this with the International Monetary Fund.
This was stated by the Minister of Finance Sergei Marchenko, writes RIA Novosti. Gas prices in Europe have risen sharply in recent months. Back in early August, the estimated price of the nearest futures on the Dutch TTF index was about $ 515 per thousand cubic meters, and by the end of September the figure had more than doubled.
On Wednesday, gas futures prices in Europe reached another record high, exceeding $ 1,600 per thousand cubic meters, which is more than 15% more than Tuesday’s calculated price.
“We have quite productive discussions within the framework of the mission (IMF – ed.). We are very actively negotiating. Now the question of fiscal risks has arisen in connection with the high price of gas. This is a story that requires additional consultation. If we take the budget and the issues for which the Ministry of Finance is responsible, there are moments that require clarification regarding the budget for 2022”, Marchenko said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
