German energy regulator requires proof of Nord Stream-2 compliance with EU regulations

If Nord Stream-2 starts operating the pipeline without certification from the Federal Network Agency of Germany, it would be a violation of German law and result in a fine, Reuters reported.

“The Federal Grid Agency today requested information from Nord Stream-2 AG and, if necessary, evidence that all regulatory requirements will be met in the context of the pipeline operation”, the German Federal Grid Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) said in a statement.

The matter concerns the issues of non-discriminatory access to the gas pipeline network of other companies and the integration of the interconnection in the area of the German market. The regulator also noted that the possibility of starting the operation of the gas pipeline in the near future cannot be ruled out.
