Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly that Tbilisi plans to apply for EU membership in 2024
“We have prepared a comprehensive action plan with many initiatives and reforms that will lead to our application for EU membership in 2024. We will not rest until we are members of the European Union and NATO”, -Garibashvili said.
Georgia’s association agreement with the European Union was concluded on June 27, 2014. Experts note that the residents of the country have not been explained the real content of the document. Georgians perceived the signing of the agreement as a stepping stone to full EU membership, although there is a huge gap between the association and actual accession.
Despite the desire of the Georgian authorities to join the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union, the head of the NATO allied office in Georgia, Rosaria Puglisi, earlier said that the alliance would not consider the accession of the republic without the territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
