Ukraine’s ambassador to the USA, Oksana Markarova, has said that Washington plans to increase military aid to Kiev to 300m dollars next year
“We are grateful to the congressmen and senators for the proposal to increase the amount of security assistance to Ukraine to $300 million in the US defence budget for 2022 (NDAA FY2022). We very much hope that this amount will be agreed upon and approved by both houses of the US Congress”, – the diplomat wrote on her Facebook page.
Since 2014, the United States has sent more than 2.5bn dollars of military assistance to Ukraine. This year alone, a package totalling 275m dollars has been approved. In addition to US financial support, Kiev plans to ask for $2.9bn from the International Monetary Fund.
However, former US ambassador to Kiev John Herbst said that Ukraine should not expect an increase in military aid because many high-ranking officials of US President Joe Biden’s administration are against Ukraine receiving the NATO Membership Action Plan.
