US returns more than 100 Haitian nationals who tried to cross the border to their home country

More than a hundred Haitians who tried to reach the United States by sea have been returned to their home country. This is according to a US Coast Guard fact sheet

A Florida resident reported to the Coast Guard in Miami about a makeshift boat with people in Biscayne Bay that he had spotted. Officers there discovered a sailboat about 10 metres long, carrying 103 migrants from Haiti. The people were planning to enter the US illegally.

“The Coast Guard is committed to bilateral cooperation with Haiti and is actively maintaining its presence in the Unwinded Strait between Cuba and Haiti to curb such deadly journeys. We urge anyone thinking of going to sea for such illegal voyages to weigh carefully the dangers of such voyages”, –  a Coast Guard spokesman told reporters.

Senator Alexei Pushkov of the Russian Federation noted that the migrant situation at the United States borders was just one stage in a “new great migration of peoples”.
