Ukraine insists on written guarantees from the West after the introduction of Nord Stream-2

The head of the office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak stressed that the mechanism of sanctions against Russia introduced earlier by the West was working.

According to TASS, on Saturday, the head of the Ukrainian president’s office, Andriy Yermak, speaking at the YES Brainstorming forum, said that Kiev hopes to sign a separate document on guarantees from the West after the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline is put into operation.

“We are working with our partners – the United States, Germany, Europe, so that Ukraine receives a real mechanism of guarantees that if this non-economic project [Nord Stream-2] is implemented, appropriate steps will be taken. We expect it to be on paper, because we want to believe not words, but concrete steps”, Yermak said.

Hochstein Amos, senior adviser on energy security at the US State Department, who spoke at the forum, assured that Washington would do everything possible “so that the Germans were prepared for such a moment that Russia must pay the price if it stops transit through Ukraine.” He also said that he was going to Berlin on Sunday to discuss this topic.
