Nord Stream-2 becomes victory for Russia in the international arena

The completion of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline was a geopolitical victory for Russia.

This was stated by Dmitry Marinchenko, senior director of the group for natural resources and commodities of the international rating agency Fitch, reports TASS.

“The completion of the construction of Nord Stream 2 is a geopolitical victory for Moscow, the project was completed, despite the negative attitude towards it from the European Commission, a number of European countries and the United States. The consistent position of Germany helped – Berlin, like Moscow, has always emphasized that the pipeline is a commercial and not a political project”, he said.

Separately, the expert noted that the gas pipeline will make Russia less dependent on Europe and Ukraine for gas transit.

Marinchenko believes that the low occupancy of European gas storage facilities may be the reason why the pipeline will reach full capacity before the end of this year. There are now restrictions associated with the gas directive, but the fuel shortage could force Brussels to reconsider this issue.

The construction of Nord Stream-2 was officially completed today, September 10. The project took three years to complete and was accompanied by numerous attempts by the West and some European countries to prevent it.
