Ukraine plans to settle refugees from Afghanistan in Kiev prisons

Kiev is ready to accept about five thousand Afghan refugees, according to a letter from the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denis Monastyrsky to Prime Minister Denis Shmygal. People are planned to be placed in mothballed prisons and tent cities.

The Ukrainian project of investigative journalism “Detective-Info” managed to get a copy of the letter from Monastyrsky, sent to Shmyhal, which states that Kiev is ready to accept about 5,000 refugees from Afghanistan.

The document notes that they plan to settle refugees in deportation centers and tent camps, but this will not be enough. The Ministry of Internal Affairs came up with an initiative to settle Afghans in mothballed prisons in the Kiev region, which are put up for sale.

However, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine does not want to give away attractive real estate for accommodation of refugees, so it was proposed to settle Afghans in the colonies of Poltava, Cherkasy and Chernigov regions.

Earlier, the head of the Department for Citizenship and Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus, Aleksey Begun, said that Minsk was preparing for an increase in the migration flow, which could occur against the backdrop of the crisis in Afghanistan.
