Russian Foreign Ministry: Moscow will establish contacts with the Taliban

Zamir Kabulov, special envoy of the Russian president for Afghanistan, director of the Second Asia Department of the Foreign Ministry, noted that it is necessary to maintain normal relations with any government in Afghanistan.

According to TASS, the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Afghanistan, director of the Second Department of Asia of the Foreign Ministry Zamir Kabulov on the air of the Russia-24 TV channel, answering the relevant question, said that Russia was establishing relations with the Taliban movement (prohibited in the Russian Federation) and considered it necessary maintain normal ties with any government in Afghanistan.

“Firstly, we are already establishing, our embassy is working in Kabul, and quite actively,” he said.

“We have established such connections for a long time. And we will fix it. We need to maintain normal relations with any government in Afghanistan”.

The special envoy of the Russian president stressed that there are certain concerns regarding the further military-political situation in the country, compliance with fundamental norms, human rights, but with all this, it is necessary to take into account the specifics, cultural and religious characteristics of the Afghan people and not try to impose anything, starting from from their own cultural ideas about democracy, order and so on.
