Polish police will help Lithuania to guard the border with Belarus

Poland is sending police officers to help Lithuania guard the border with Belarus, said Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration Mariusz Kamiński.

“The Lithuanian government has asked us for support,” Kaminsky said at a press conference on Monday.

“You will help to ensure the security of the borders of the Lithuanian state, which is our strategic partner,” he said, addressing the police.

The minister expressed confidence that illegal migrants are confident that “the border of the European Union is open.”

“The border of the European Union is not open. The government of Lithuania and the government of Poland will not allow massive violations of the border”, he said.

In turn, the chief commandant of the Polish police, Yaroslav Shimchak, recalled that in 2016 police officers from Poland were involved in protecting the border of Hungary and Serbia when the migration crisis arose there.

Recently, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland have announced an increase in the number of detained illegal migrants at the border with Belarus.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that Minsk will no longer restrain the flow of illegal migrants to the EU countries: because of the West’s sanctions, there is “neither money nor energy for this.”
