The West is trying to question the results of the upcoming elections in Russia, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
“We will always act on the basis of the fundamental interests of our people. This also applies to the upcoming elections to the State Duma, on the results of which Western colleagues also want to influence, they are already trying to raise doubts about their objectivity, to question their results. We all went through this in previous election campaigns, but now it is manifested, probably, the most aggravated”, Lavrov said during a meeting with the Volgograd public and youth.
The politician goes to the autumn elections to the State Duma in the top five from the United Russia party. In addition to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, it includes Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, chief physician of the Kommunarka hospital Denis Protsenko, child rights ombudsman Anna Kuznetsova and ONF headquarters co-chair Elena Shmeleva.
Voting in the Duma and other elections on a single voting day will take place this year from 17 to 19 September. The State Duma is elected for a five-year term under a mixed electoral system: 225 deputies are elected from party lists, another 225 – from single-mandate constituencies in one round.
