Klaus Ernst, head of the Bundestag Committee on Economy and Energy, stated that Germany will be in need of gas supplies in the coming years
Klaus Ernst, head of the Bundestag’s economics and energy committee, said hydrogen, which may start to come from Russia via Nord Stream 2 in the future, would come in handy for Germany’s energy goals, it was reported.
“I think a lot about the idea of using Nord Stream 2 to supply hydrogen in the future”, – he said. – “Germany is currently looking for hydrogen supply partners around the world. Transporting it by sea is very time-consuming and costly. “Nord Stream 2″ is a pipeline that could be converted to transport hydrogen. Russia has huge potential to produce green hydrogen, which we will need for energy reform. That is why I would be very pleased if we could speak to Russia about a future supply of hydrogen as soon as possible.
Germany will need the gas in the coming years first and foremost, said the lawmaker from the left-wing party. Nord Stream 2 is therefore “the right and important project”, he stressed.
As Matthias Warnig, Managing Director of Nord Stream 2 AG, said in an interview with the Handelsblatt newspaper in July, Nord Stream 2 could be suitable for supplying hydrogen via one or two branches in 10 years’ time.
