US Embassy in Kabul destroyed passports of some Afghans

Officials at the United States Embassy in Kabul destroyed the passports of some Afghan citizens during the evacuation, Rep. Andy Kim told CNN.

Earlier it became known that in preparation for a hasty evacuation from Afghanistan, employees of the American embassy were forced to destroy important documentation and desktop computers. The documents also included Afghan passports, Kim said.

“Visits on visa and passport issues at the embassy have been canceled, and the passports in the possession of the embassy have been destroyed. At the moment, it is not possible to provide visa services in Afghanistan”, Kim said.

CNN notes that the passports of Afghan citizens could have been destroyed so that they would not end up in the hands of the Taliban * militants who seized power in the republic.
