Analysts of the American magazine The National Interest noted that Russia pays great attention to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats, and NATO military conducts such training only occasionally.
The experts of the publication drew attention to the fact that Russia’s readiness for chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats can be seen even in the contents of the first aid kits for the civil defense forces to provide first aid. They contain antibacterial agents, radioprotective agents, agents used for carbon monoxide poisoning and agents used for some other chemical poisoning.
“In NATO countries, RCB threats are paid much less attention, both in civil defense and in military conditions. As for Russia, its army is equipped with modern special vehicles and RHBZ equipment, which is demonstrated at major international exhibitions”, the article says.
In addition, Russian troops have systems for setting up smoke screens on the battlefield and powerful flamethrower systems TOS-1 “Buratino” and TOS-1A “Solntsepek”, capable of firing projectiles in smoke ignition and thermobaric equipment.
“Also, training exercises in rubber protective suits are often held, as well as special treatment (decontamination, degassing) of armored vehicles. In addition, large-scale NBC exercises are often held. For comparison, the majority of NATO soldiers, apparently, undergo exercises using means of protection against RCB threats only occasionally, at best – familiarization exercises once a month”, the National Interest emphasized.
