Media: US may evacuate its diplomats from Kabul by end of August

Washington is also discussing how many specialists are needed at the diplomatic mission, given the dangerous situation, Politico notes

Politico newspaper on Wednesday cited sources as saying that the United States is considering closing its embassy in Kabul and evacuating American diplomats by the end of August.

“According to sources, the possibility of closing the US embassy in the Afghan capital by the end of the month is being considered as a course of action. One source said Washington is also discussing how many US diplomats are needed at the diplomatic mission given the current dangerous situation”, –  the report said.

The Washington Post reported Tuesday that the Pentagon believes the situation in Afghanistan is worsening rapidly, and that the radical Taliban (banned in Russia) could take over Kabul within one to three months. According to one of its sources, the US Defence Department believes that it is necessary to prepare for the evacuation of US diplomats and other personnel from the Afghan capital in the near future.
