Washington is thinking about imposing new sanctions against Minsk. This was reported by the Wall Street Journal. The publication referred to the participants of the meeting to discuss the visit of Svetlana Tikhanovskaya to the United States
The State Department is going to impose sanctions, which will hit the oil and potash sector of the Belarusian economy.
“We are not going to announce specific actions. But I will say that you can count on the United States, together with our partners and allies, to continue to hold Lukashenko’s regime accountable for its actions, including through sanctions”, – said an official of President Joe Biden’s administration.
Tikhanovskaya is already in the States. She managed to meet with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, his deputy Victoria Nuland and the president’s assistant for national security issues Jake Sullivan.
