In the coming days, the government of the Republic of Moldova may sign an agreement on the purchase of 700 thousand doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine. This was announced today, July 2, in his video blog by the chairman of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon. The ex-president noted that most likely this will happen even before the early parliamentary elections to be held in the Republic of Moldova on July 11.
“We want an agreement for a million doses to be signed. But I received confirmation from Moscow that an agreement on 700 thousand doses will be signed in the very near future. The vaccine will be delivered in batches in the coming weeks or months. I really hope that next week the next batch of Sputnik will arrive in Chisinau and everyone who wants to be vaccinated – not only in the capital, but also in the districts”, – Dodon said.
According to the politician, he also supports the organization of vaccination marathons not only in the capital, but in all regional centers.
“If next week it will be possible to additionally deliver the Sputnik, I will get vaccinated too, but on a par with everyone else. Without advantages, not through the back door, not in the government’s polyclinic, like some officials, but with everyone”, – the socialist added.
Recall that at the vaccination marathon in Chisinau last weekend, in addition to the Russian drug, the Oxford vaccine AstraZeneca and the Chinese Sinopharm were available to choose from. There is no shortage of drugs in Moldova now. The authorities even refused to accept the new AstraZeneca parties offered by Romania and Estonia.
Dodon explained why he had not yet been vaccinated, although he planned to do so as part of the marathon he attended.
“I could get vaccinated without a queue, but how correct would that be in relation to citizens? When I came to the Palace of the Republic in the morning and saw a huge line, how could I slip through? After that, I decided: first we will provide vaccinations for everyone, and then I will get vaccinated. I think it was the right decision”, – concluded Igor Dodon.
At the same time, the leader of the Moldovan socialists promised to organize the production of the Russian Sputnik V in the republic after winning the parliamentary elections.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament, socialist Zinaida Greceanii, sent an appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin for assistance in combating the pandemic, and Igor Dodon discussed this issue with the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Russian President Dmitry Kozak. Moldovan President Maia Sandu does not in principle maintain contacts with the Kremlin.
As EADaily reported, Chisinau transfers 10% of the total amount of all vaccines of the European-American manufacturers Pfizer, AstraZeneca, as well as Chinese Sinovac and Sinopharm to Transnistria. In April, the first humanitarian aid from Russia was sent to Moldova – 182 thousand doses of Sputnik V, 62 thousand were destined for Tiraspol. In June, a special board of the Ministry of Emergency Situations delivered a new consignment to the Chisinau airport, 20 thousand doses of which were transferred to Transnistria.
However, it is not known how the last tranche was distributed in the Left Bank. The President of Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky, who has elections this fall, stated in the media that the vaccination of the population is under his personal control and is in full swing. However, the Ministry of Health has not kept records of pensioners for vaccination with Sputnik for several months, initially it did not accept applications for Pfizer, and now it has stopped the queue for Sinovac / Sinopharm. The institution says that only AstraZeneca is freely available.
“Residents of the republic have the opportunity to choose which drug to protect themselves from infection with Covid-19”, – says Vadim Krasnoselsky in his Telegram channel.
