US Administration to allocate additional $436 million to provide humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken noted the need to continue the fight against the “remaining elements of IS”.

He stated this on Monday, opening in Rome a ministerial meeting of the international coalition to fight the terrorist organization “Islamic State” (IS, banned in the Russian Federation).

“The US will provide an additional $436 million in humanitarian aid to the Syrians and those communities that host refugees [from that country]. Thus, the total US contribution will reach $13.5 billion”, – the ANSA agency quoted him as saying.

Help and stabilization of the situation in Syria and other countries where IS operates, Blinken called one of the priorities of the coalition. He also noted the need to continue the fight against “the remaining elements of IS in Syria and Iraq in order to prevent their growth”. In addition, he warned against the spread of IS in other areas, in particular in Africa.

For his part, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, co-chairing the meeting, came up with an initiative to create a working group on preventing the spread of terrorism in Africa, which could include representatives of African countries.
