US Ambassador spoke about working with Russia on the issue of convicted Americans

The United States is actively working with Russia on the issue of Americans convicted in Russia, said the United States Ambassador to Moscow John Sullivan.

“It (this topic – ed.) was included by both presidents in the list of issues for discussion by our countries, and we are actively working in this direction, since this topic is an important priority for President Biden and the United States of America”, – Sullivan said in an interview with the TV channel “Rain”.

According to him, Russia and the United States will continue to discuss this topic in the near future.

“I think it would be better if they (the discussions – ed.) Were held out of sight, did not turn into detailed public discussions”, – the diplomat explained.

On Friday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that there has been no movement on the exchange of prisoners between Russia and the United States after the Geneva summit, while Moscow’s approach on this issue has not changed.

Following the results of the Russian-US summit in Geneva on June 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he had discussed with Biden the topic of the exchange of convicts, in this area compromises could be found. There are now 17 US citizens in Russian prisons, such data was provided by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
